En ces temps de morosité économique, la victoire d’une entreprise française à la grande messe annuelle d’IBM, l’un des premiers acteurs mondiaux de l’édition de logiciel et des services informatiques, méritait d’être soulignée.
Depuis lundi se déroule à Orlando (Floride) la convention IBM Connect 2014 centrée autour des solutions « social » et collaboratives de l’éditeur américain. En parallèle des présentations, annonces et autres sessions techniques, se déroulait le concours de la meilleure application/intégration (App Throwdown) pour la solution RSE (réseau social d’entreprise, un « Facebook » en Intranet pour schématiser) d’IBM : Connections.
C’est dans ce cadre que Reverso-Softissimo, PME française basée à Neuilly-Sur-Seine (dont l’auteur est un collaborateur), s’est envolée pour les Disney Studios afin de défendre sa vision du RSE multilingue. Reverso-Softissimo, connu du grand public pour ses services linguistiques gratuits en ligne Reverso.net (traduction, dictionnaire, conjugaison, correction), est également très présent sur le marché « entreprise » où elle équipe une grande partie du CAC40.
C’est à partir du besoin d’un client commun à Reverso et IBM que le projet de rendre Connections multilingue a vu le jour. Les équipes de Reverso et d’IBM ont alors travaillé main dans la main afin de développer « Reverso Translate for IBM Connections« , une application qui permet de traduire d’un simple clic n’importe quel contenu publié sur la plateforme Connections.
Le hasard a voulu que ce projet soit finalisé fin 2013 au moment des candidatures pour l’App Throwdown 2014. Les équipes d’IBM nous ont proposé d’y participer en soumettant une démo vidéo des fonctionnalités :
Un vote interne à IBM a sélectionné 14 demi-finalistes (sur 35 candidatures) et les a invité à venir effectuer une démonstration live de leur produit au cours d’une session dédiée le premier jour de l’événement.
Le directeur commercial de Reverso-Softissimo est donc parti défendre les couleurs de l’entreprise le lundi 27 janvier à Orlando.
Les 14 demi-finalistes ont été séparés en 2 groupes de 7 et chaque participant a eu 5 minutes pour montrer son application devant un public d’une centaine de personnes. A la fin de chacune des 2 sessions, le public présent a pu voter par SMS ou Twitter : là, première surprise, Reverso Translate s’est arrogé la deuxième place de la première session !
Deuxième place qualificative pour une démo live devant toute la convention en ouverture de la troisième journée d’IBM Connect. La tension monte d’un cran, on peaufine la présentation et on décide même d’ajouter 2 fonctionnalités de dernière minute afin de séduire le plus grand nombre : la correction orthographique et grammaticale ainsi que la synthèse vocale.
Le jour J, 8h du matin (14h à Paris), on passe en deuxième position devant une salle pleine à craquer, avec « on stage » 2 VPs dIBM.

Une fois les 4 finalistes passés, même système que lundi : un vote par Twitter. Et là, deuxième grosse surprise, Reverso-Softissimo remporte la victoire avec deux fois plus de votes que son dauphin ! Je ne vous raconte pas la grosse ambiance dans les bureaux de Neuilly-Sur-Seine…
Sans être chauvin, nous sommes très fiers chez Reverso-Softissimo d’avoir remporté cette finale face à des concurrents (tous américains) proposant des solutions innovantes de grande qualité :
- Qumu, plateforme vidéo pour entreprise (côté sur le NASDAQ, a levé 25 millions avant d’être racheté en 2011 par Rimage)
- Flow, un CMS entreprise orienté mobile (a déjà levé 7 millions)
- OpenQ, une solution de gestion des risques collaboratifs (6 millions de fonds levés)
En toute objectivité, notre application était la plus « simple » des 4 mais c’est peut-être ce qui a séduit l’auditoire : répondre à un besoin compréhensible et global (comment collaborer efficacement avec des collègues qui ne parlent pas les mêmes langues que moi) de façon intelligente et totalement intégrée.
Reverso-Softissimo a ainsi apporté sa contribution à la thématique principale de ce Connect 2014 « Energizing Life’s Work » ou comment comprendre et se faire comprendre est la base de tout échange et collaboration sociale réussie.

I agree with Hastings’ comments, Amazon prime video is a mess and I also don’t understand why it’s there. I subscribe to prime because of the free 2 day delivery. I never use the video service because only old unpopular movies are available for free and they charge too much to rent or buy a film. Prime video also offers a sub-par experience, I find that it servers lower video quality when compared to netflix and lacks subtitles. I rather amazon dump the video service and offer prime at a lower price.

Speaking of this edition of the Godel book, will CUP typeset it in a classic typeface like Sabon (as it did your other book)? Do you have a say in such decisions? Yes, I totally hear you! As a trainer, it can be really challenging to work with someone who doesn’t really want to make a change or put in the effort. It makes all the difference when someone really wants to be there and is committed to putting in the work in order to see changes. It’s also very inspiring to see people work hard and push themselves to reach their goal! And of course it’s the ones who work hard and are committed physically and psychologically to their training who experience results!!

Unless those books you refer to are all coming from the same publisher, I would hazard a guess that this is less of an intentional trend than that of the collective consciousness. I have two, they are a set. They were sold as the saucepan, and frypan lid. One of mine is the flame orange red by DESCOWARE, and the other is a “copy” of the style in brown by Le Creuset. The Descoware is lighter weight and easy to handle. Anyone want to buy the LC??? LOL!!!!
